Prince's Foundation Summer School Day 11 - Thatching


Thatching was simply incredible. It was something I was quite close to theoretically but had never ever done into practice. I have seen quite a few thatched roofs around Bulgaria (the new trend of building eco houses) as well as along some English villages (small, pretty and tidy cottages) but it was incredible to learn about the qualities of the straw and the wheat/grain. It is very fulfilling to know that with one material, in our case the grain, you can both build the roof over your house as well as make some flour. Nothing better than finishing the day with some freshly baked bread with Welsh honey and Scottish butter...
